Alora (15,000 inh.) is a friendly and welcoming village, with the typical narrow streets and white houses nestled around a castle built by the Arabian in the 8th century which was declared as National Monument in 1931.

As a traditional Andalusia town, we must emphasize the Holy Week processions, the summer Fair and the Festival named “Cante Grande” which keeps alive the flamenco tradition in the town.

Just a short walk from the cottage you will find several bars and restaurants to enjoy the delicious tapas and typical dishes. Besides all the services you might need during your stay: supermarkets, bakery, fishery, shops, banks, etc).

Caminito del Rey (14 km away)

The El Chorro’s gorge is one of most amazing rock formations in Europe and one of the favourite destinations by mountaineers all over the world. Between its narrow vertical walls -over 300 m height in some points- it breaks through an impressive footpath known as the Caminito del Rey (The King’s little path) which was built in the early 20th century to provide access to the workers of the Hydroelectric  Central.

After a time and due to its wear and tear, it was known for being the most dangerous footpath in the world. Luckily, after hard works to renovate it, the Caminito del Rey has been re-opened to all public becoming a nice walk in the heights which will make you feel unique sensations.

In 2015, it was included by Lonely Planet in the Top 10 travelling experiences.

Near to the Caminito del Rey you will find the Guadalhorce reservoir with magnificent areas for picnics, swimming and kayaks hire. Hiking and mountain bike are also activities very much recommended in this area.
